I encounter many people who hear the same words I’ve heard five times – “you have cancer.” They have numerous questions running through their minds about God.
- Are you the same healer that I read about in the Bible?
- Do You see the pain and anguish I’m going through?
- Will You walk with me?
- Why me God?
I had the same questions.
It didn’t take God long to answer questions 1-3 for me after my diagnoses. With tears flowing down my face, the Lord gently said “I am the same yesterday, today and forever.” Hebrews 13:8 tells me this. The circumstance that I was in didn’t change the fact that God still heals, He sees my pain and anguish, and He helped me walk through each diagnosis and live victoriously. He is the same today as He was yesterday, and He doesn’t change regardless of the circumstances that I’m in.
I asked “the why” question after every diagnosis. It was natural for me to want to know why I kept hearing the words “you have cancer” repeatedly.
Did I get an answer from God?
No!
If I proceeded to press God to answer me, I’d end up on the “why road” – a road with no end that was filled with agitation, frustration, and chaos for the lack of answers.
I continue to get invitations from the “why road” when faced with tribulations today. Proverbs 3:5-6 in the only road map to keep me from traveling this road.
“Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding
In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.”
Scripture from Amplified Version
This scripture tells me not to lean on my own understanding, but rather acknowledge God and He will direct me on the right road to travel. Throughout my cancer journey, I leaned, trusted, and became confident that God would deliver me. It was a more pleasant road than the “why road.”
